Warmer Winter Temperatures Impact Local Vineyard Ice Wine

Written by on January 13, 2023

The weather this winter season has been all over the place and it has impacted us in many ways. It’s has even brought historic deadly storms our way. Another way the weather has affected our region is with the harvesting of grapes for wine.

Casa Larga is well known for its delicious Ice Wine (one of my faves) but this year which would be the 25th harvest will be a bit different. Casa Larga will not harvest its wintertime staple wine due to warm temperatures. It has to be 17 degrees Fahrenheit for the grapes to be harvested.

Casa Larga decided not to harvest the crops this year as the temperature was not where it needed to be to remove the grapes from the vine. With Ice Wine it is important for the crop to be the correct temperature when harvesting.

There were only a handful of times the temperature was good for harvesting grapes however, the weather was too dangerous. Casa Larga said it will still have the Ice Wine Festival on February 18th, 2023. For more information click Casa Larga.
