US Senate & House Of Representatives Override Presidential Veto On National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA)

Written by on January 2, 2021

The Senate just overruled the President’s veto on the National Defense Authorization Act, making this the first congressional override in the 4 years that Trump has been in office.

The NDAA will raise pay for the troops, set rules and regulations for how and when weapons will be purchased and set military policies. It was approved by the House and the Senate with overwhelming support.

Trump initially vetoed the bill for two reasons. One, he didn’t like that it included a clause that called for military bases to change their names after being named for confederate military leaders, and two, the bill would strip social media companies of the protections they have under section 230 of the Communications Decency Act. This makes it so social media companies can’t be sued by someone claiming to be harmed by a post.
