US House Office of Diversity and Inclusion to be disbanded as part of government spending bill

The US House Office of Diversity and Inclusion will be disbanded as part of a government spending bill passed on March 22, 2024, according to the office’s director, Dr. Sesha Joi Moon. In a statement, Moon announced the dissolution of the office, established in March 2020 to promote a congressional workforce reflective of the nation’s diversity. Its responsibilities included financial management, candidate services, and professional development. The office will be replaced by the Office of Talent Management under the Chief Administrative Officer, effective the following Monday. This move comes amid growing criticism and attacks on DEI programs nationwide, particularly from Republican lawmakers. While Moon plans to leave her position later this year, some team members will transition to the new Office of Talent Management. Moon expressed gratitude for the support received during the office’s tenure, emphasizing its role in fostering a representative congressional workforce.
