Urban League CEO sworn into the NYS Commission on Reparations Remedies

Dr. Seanelle Hawkins, CEO of the Urban League of Rochester, has been sworn in as the chair of the New York State Community Commission on Reparations Remedies. The commission was established to examine the impact of slavery in New York and its ongoing effects on Black residents. Dr. Hawkins, a prominent community leader, expressed her gratitude for the appointment in a statement on the Urban League’s website. She emphasized the commission’s goal to deliver a well-researched report with concrete steps for the state to pursue reparations and racial justice, aiming to foster healing and a more equitable future.
