Kat Sirico, a 40-year-old University of Rochester dance production lecturer, died in a tragic workplace accident while working at the Jacob’s Pillow dance festival in western Massachusetts. Sirico was assisting with stage setup when a dolly carrying platforms got out of control, ultimately striking and fatally injuring them. Authorities confirmed it was an accident and no charges will be filed. Sirico, who joined UR in December, was remembered by colleagues as passionate, meticulous, and student-focused. The festival canceled its remaining performances in response. A memorial is being planned by the university for the start of the new academic year.
