The CEO of University Prep Charter School for Young Men, Walter Larkin, wanted to do something special for the 2020 graduates who have been affected by the coronavirus pandemic.
With schools being shut down, seniors haven’t been able to enjoy the final two months of their last year in high school. Many events like the sports activities and the prom were cancelled.
Larkin decided to reach out to minority owned businesses and asked them to help with a graduation ceremony, including a video that chronicled the student’s experience and a portrait session with the principal and CEO of the school.
The organizers included Christopher Cardwell, Quentin Gause, Justin Ortiz and Chris Washington, Larkin and the UPrep staff.
Raymond Rivera, the 2020 class salutatorian released a statement, saying”
“I felt like I mattered, I like the camera and being able to talk about my journey.”
Rivera will be continuing his education at St. John Fisher College.
