DA Pledges Accountability In Wilson Hazing Case
District Attorney Hillar Moore, speaking alongside Wilson’s family, confirmed the investigation into the tragic hazing death is still very active. Officials say they’re combing through cell phones, gathering evidence, and seeking cooperation from those already facing charges, while the community continues to wrestle with questions of accountability. In an exclusive statement given to UWK, Moore shared,
“It’s a shame that someone had to die just because he wanted to be in a fraternity,” Moore revealed. “He just wanted to earn his spot in the fraternity he always wanted to be in but had to give his life to do so.” He continued, “Everyone else got punched, but Caleb was the one who died because he was hit at the wrong time.”
Furthermore, according to WAFB, Moore shared,
“We are continuing to investigate.” He added, “The main thing are telephones that are being downloaded and other evidence and then hopefully cooperation of people that are now indicted.”
Charges Filed In Southern University Hazing Tragedy
As previously reported, Wilson collapsed after being struck in the chest during what authorities are describing as a hazing ritual in February. Caleb McCray was indicted for manslaughter and principal to felony hazing, accused of punching Wilson multiple times. Other suspects—Kyle Thurman, Isaiah Smith, Jaydn Landrum, and Winston Sanders—face felony hazing and obstruction charges, underscoring the serious legal consequences tied to the deadly event.
A sixth individual, Jaelyn Grissom, was presented to the grand jury, but no decision was reached. Prosecutors say charges could still be filed if more evidence emerges. All five indicted suspects were also charged with misdemeanor hazing connected to other pledges allegedly targeted that same night, keeping the spotlight firmly on the fraternity and the fatal incident.
