Uber Driver Physically Confronted Over Face Mask Disagreement

Written by on March 10, 2021

Here’s a seemingly familiar scenario for your future ride-sharing experience!
An Uber driver in the Bay area recently had a pickup of three women. At some point during the ride, the driver addressed them about wearing facemasks. The difference in opinions became confrontational. This escalated into a feud and the driver refused to take them to their destination. The backseat riders seemed to become worried and filled with high anxiety. More words were exchanged and anger resulted. Then one of them snatched his facemask off and grabbed his phone from the dashboard.
From this story, I wonder what the protocol is for providing service for a ride-sharing customer when there is a volatile situation. Is it still necessary to continue through the transaction? Are there precautions that must be made before a decision is made to discontinue the service? Is the driver stuck with the deal until reaching the agreed upon destination? This is a new world of events and I just have questions. If you drive for one of the new transportation services let us know. Text 585-678-1039.
