U-Haul Police Chase Ends in Erie Canal; One Dead, One in Custody

A U-Haul police chase Tuesday night ended in the Erie Canal, leaving one man dead and another in custody.

Police say the suspects stole items from a Walgreens in Brockport before fleeing.

The driver led officers on a chase, then drove the U-Haul into the canal near the Monroe-Orleans county line.

He swam to shore and was later captured, while the passenger drowned.

Authorities are holding the driver responsible, and charges are pending.
