Tyler Perry’s nephew Gavin Porter dies in jail cell

Tyler Perry, the award-winning producer, actor, and director, and his family are having a tough time upon learning that his 26-year-old nephew, Gavin Porter, has committed suicide in his jail cell. Louisiana police reported the incident on February 25th.

Tyler perry’s sister, Gavin’s mother, was told that he used a bedsheet to hang himself, during his time in solitary confinement. Gavin Porter reportedly ended up in solitary confinement due to an altercation he had with another inmate during the weekend of February 22nd. On the day of his untimely death, guards reported checking in on him around 6 P.M, where they noted he was alive at the time. After completing another check at 8 P.M that same evening, they discovered the horrific scene.

Gavin Porter was incarcerated shortly after his arrest, in 2016, under the charges of manslaughter and was mandated to serve 20 years in prison. He was convicted of shooting and killing his father, Gary Wayne Porter, after an argument between his father and mother got out of control. The press has reached out to Tyler Perry, who has made no comments concerning this matter as of yet. In regards to the case, the Union Parish Sheriff Office had this to say: “We can confirm the identity of Gavin Porter and we are awaiting the results of the autopsy”.
