Kenneth Walker, Breonna Taylor’s boyfriend has just received a donation to his legal defense fund of around $100,000 according to Variety.
The benefactor was Tyler Perry, who’s donation came in waves on Sunday – first with a $10,000 donation, then another $10,000, followed by $50,000 and then $30,000.
The GoFund me page was set up on November 10 with the goal of $100,00, and Perry’s donations helped surpass that mark.
Walker’s girlfriend, Breonna Taylor, was fatally shot by plainclothes police officers in her Louisville, Ky. apartment on March 13. Walker was in the apartment at the time of the incident, and fired a warning shot at the officers, believing them to be intruders. Though the officers contend that they announced themselves before entry, Walker has said that they did not and that the shot was an act of self-defense.
Although Walker’s charges were dismissed, he filed a civil suit against the city of Louisville and the Louisville Police Department.
Tyler Perry is widely recognized for using his platform to elevate others, handing out meals to 5,000 families in Atlanta for Thanksgiving and giving $21,000 to his favorite restaurant in April.
