President Trump signed an executive order to stop federal funding for NPR and PBS, saying public money shouldn’t support what he called biased news.
The order tells the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) to end both direct and indirect funding to the two networks by June 30.
Trump argued that government-funded media is outdated and hurts journalistic independence.
NPR and PBS still get most of their money from other sources, so they are not expected to shut down.
The order also requires agencies to stop any other taxpayer support and calls for a review of whether NPR and PBS are following anti-discrimination rules.
