Trump Hints at Third Presidential Term, Claims Unmatched Popularity Despite Constitutional Limits

Written by on March 31, 2025

In a recent phone interview with NBC News, President Donald Trump stated, “I’m not joking” about the possibility of seeking a third term after his second term ends in early 2029.

He referenced the 22nd Amendment, which limits presidents to two terms, while claiming that his popularity might sway public opinion in his favor.

Trump falsely asserted that he has the “highest poll numbers of any Republican for the last 100 years,” despite Gallup data showing that George W. Bush achieved a 90% approval rating after the September 11 attacks, while Trump’s highest approval during his second term has been 47%.

Trump has previously joked about serving more than two terms, asking during a House Republican retreat in January, “Am I allowed to run again?”
