Trump Administration Revokes Harvard’s Authority to Enroll International Students
Written by Site Hub on May 22, 2025
The Trump administration has stripped Harvard University of its ability to enroll international students, a move announced by the Department of Homeland Security. Citing accusations of the university fostering antisemitism, collaborating with the Chinese Communist Party, and failing to curb campus unrest, DHS Secretary Kristi Noem declared that admitting foreign students is a privilege, not a right. Harvard responded strongly, calling the decision unlawful and damaging to its academic mission. The university currently hosts around 7,000 international students, comprising 27% of its student body. This policy shift threatens significant financial and intellectual contributions, as international students added over $43 billion to the U.S. economy in the previous academic year. The development also follows recent threats from President Trump to challenge Harvard’s tax-exempt status. Harvard vows to fight the decision and maintain its global academic presence.
