The remnants of Hurricane Beryl brought severe weather to Western New York, resulting in four confirmed tornadoes on Wednesday. Two EF-1 tornadoes and two EF-0 tornadoes touched down south of Buffalo within two hours. The strongest tornado, an EF-1 with winds up to 110 mph, struck Arkwright, damaging trees and homes along a three-mile path. Another EF-1 tornado hit Aurora with similar wind speeds, stretching 400 yards wide over 1.5 miles. EF-0 tornadoes affected Eden and Genesee County, causing tree damage and prompting a State of Emergency in Eden.
Over 25,000 power outages were reported at the storm’s peak, but most were resolved by Thursday. These tornadoes are the first in the region since 2022. The storms were part of a larger system that produced at least 37 tornadoes across the U.S. from Monday to Wednesday. The National Weather Service issued a record 18 tornado warnings in the Buffalo area during the event.
