This Year’s Wildfires Set New Records In California

Written by on September 8, 2020

Due to record high temperatures, dry conditions and extreme winds, huge areas of land in California have gone up in flames.

Over 2 million acres of land have burned away, setting a new record for worst wildfires that California has ever seen.

Randy Moore, regional forester for the USDA Forest Service Pacific Southwest Region says:

“Existing fires are displaying extreme fire behavior, new fire starts are likely, weather conditions are worsening, and we simply do not have enough resources to fully fight and contain every fire.”

Residents are saying that the sky is red and “It looks like Mars out there.”

According to Cal Fire, over 3000 lightning strikes during August have set the blaze and there is no end in sight.

The fire has also cut power to over a hundred thousand homes in 22 counties. Officials are considering cutting more, as the power lines could create sparks and fuel the fire further.
