There’s A Petition Going Around To Change The Name Of Rochester’s Airport To Frederick Douglas International Airport

Written by on July 15, 2020

Richard Glaser started a petition to get Monroe County Executive Adam Bello to change the name of the Rochester Greater International Airport to Frederick Douglas International Airport.

When the petition started Monday, its goal was to have 2000 signatures by its completion. 24 hours after it was posted on Facebook, it had reached 1,500.

Glaser started the petition to help change the racial inequalities of Rochester and the rest of the world.

When WROC reached out to him, he commented, saying:

“Frederick Douglass is arguably among the greatest historical figures for all the reasons that someone might win a Nobel Prize,” he said. “He really enshrines the values that were put out there by the Founding Fathers.”

“We were blessed with Douglass’s presence in our community,” he said. “People around the world know him, every school kid learns about Frederick Douglass. “It’s time to get that symbolic recognition.”
