The Roots artist, Malik A. Basit has passed away.

Confirmed yesterday night by the group’s publicist after their announcement on Twitter; “We regretfully inform you of the passing of our beloved brother and long time member Malik Abdul Basit.”
Known in the group as Malik B. his fellow The Roots members say, they will remember him for being, “one of the most gifted MCs of all time.”
Malik was a part of the Philadelphia-based group from its start until around 1999 and then went on to produce his own material but continued to make appearances in The Roots albums. The artist was 47, no cause of death has been released.
