The IRS Says The Tax Deadline Is Being Pushed Back To Late Spring

Written by on March 18, 2021

The IRS has announced late Wednesday that they are planning on delaying this year’s tax deadline to mid-May.

According to Democratic Reps. Bill Pascrell of New Jersey and Richard Neal of Massachusetts, the chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, the new deadline will be May 17.

The adjustment comes as a result of complications caused by the pandemic. These complications make it harder for the IRS to figure out as millions of Americans try to figure out their finances from the past year.

Raskin and Pascrell sent a letter to the IRS that said:

“Almost a year later, we are still grappling with the massive economic, logistical and health challenges wrought by this devastating pandemic,”

Sources say that the IRS is still working through last years returns, putting more pressure on the institution.
