Temple University Launches Kendrick Lamar Course in Fall 2025

Temple University will debut a new course titled “Kendrick Lamar and the Morale of M.A.A.D City,” delving into the rapper’s career and cultural impact. The course, taught by Professor Timothy Welbeck, will explore Lamar’s work through an Africalogical lens, focusing on Black identity, systemic inequality, and Compton’s urban history. Welbeck, also a hip-hop artist and lawyer, hopes students will gain insights into Lamar’s storytelling and the social dynamics behind his lyrics. The class will include guest lectures from industry professionals and explore West Coast hip-hop’s influence on his artistry.
