A 19-year-old man, Dhymere Bailey, was arraigned on Saturday in Rochester City Court for the homicide of 39-year-old Sandra Blanding.
He pleaded not guilty to charges of second-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon.
The incident occurred Wednesday morning near a vacant lot on Spencer Street.
Police apprehended Bailey on Friday after he attempted to flee in the Mount Hope Avenue area.
Authorities believe Bailey and Blanding were not acquainted prior to the shooting, and a motive has not been disclosed.
He is currently being held without bail, with a preliminary hearing set for Wednesday.
