Fans of Taylor Swift are devastated by the cancellation of three sold-out “Eras Tour” shows in Vienna, Austria, after authorities foiled an apparent attack plot. The suspects, inspired by Islamic State and al-Qaida, planned to target fans outside the Ernst Happel Stadium with knives or explosives. Up to 65,000 fans were expected inside the stadium and another 30,000 outside.
The venue remained empty, but fans gathered on Corneliusgasse, a street reminiscent of Swift’s song “Cornelia Street,” to trade friendship bracelets and share their disappointment. Many had spent hundreds of euros on tickets, flights, and hotels.
Swift has not publicly commented on the cancellations, but her team re-posted the announcement on Instagram. Fans expressed their heartbreak on social media, while others sought tickets for her upcoming London shows. London Mayor Sadiq Khan assured heightened security measures, referencing lessons learned from the 2017 Ariana Grande concert attack in Manchester.
Despite the disappointment, fans like Andrew and Alison Strauss, who traveled from the U.S., support the decision, prioritizing safety over the concert experience.
