Former Syracuse basketball star Lawrence Moten, the program’s all-time leading scorer, has died at age 53. He was found dead Tuesday at his home in Washington, D.C., according to reports.
Moten scored 2,334 career points for the Orange from 1991–95, averaging 19.3 points per game. He helped lead Syracuse to three NCAA Tournament appearances and remains one of the Big East’s all-time greats.
Legendary coach Jim Boeheim called the loss “tragic,” praising Moten as “one of our greatest players” and “one of the most underrated college basketball players of all time.” Current head coach Adrian Autry, a former teammate, also remembered him fondly.
