Over the weekend with no formal introduction Dave Chappelle opened up a comedy show for the Chris Rock and Kevin Hart show at Madison Square Garden. Chappelle surprised the crowd by walking out to Radiohead’s “Karma Police,” cigarette in hand. “Had to sneak my way in here,” Chappelle joked, “despite what you may have read about in the news, I’m okay, and I appreciate the support.”
TMZ reports that he spoke at length about cancel culture, something Chappelle has been passionate about recently. He referenced the criticism he’s received over his Netflix special, The Closer, and noted that he “already spent the money.” The comedian referenced a Minneapolis venue that recently canceled his performance after facing backlash for booking Chappelle.
During his 20-minute opener, he touched on getting tackled at the Hollywood Bowl and took issue with media outlets that referred to it as an “alleged” attack. The incident was caught on video, providing clear proof.
He also wished monkeypox on the attacker, but “not that he should die, but his ass should itch for four to six weeks.”
Rock and Hart followed with a one-hour set, both mentioning Will Smith. Rock brought up cancel culture and quipped, “Anyone who says words hurt has never been punched in the face.”
Once the two closed out their set, they were joined by Chappelle on stage. The three debated over who was the GOAT, with Hart saying it was Rock. Hart then gifted Rock a goat wearing gold chains. “This is the worst night of this goat’s life,” Chappelle joked. To Read More Click Here.
