Supreme Court To Rule On Abortion Law In Louisiana

Something to keep an eye on Wednesday is the Supreme Court hearing June Medical Services v. Russo. The case in Louisiana could shape the way other states handle access to abortions. It won’t overturn the Roe v. Wade ruling but it could make it increasingly difficult for women to get abortions in states where abortion is already legal.
This will be the first major abortion case to come before by Justices Brett Kavanaugh and Nail Gorsuch, Trumps conservative majority. One of the arguments for challenging the 2014 law is it does not benefit the health and safety of women.
The Louisiana law, Act 626 requires doctors performing abortions to obtain admitting privileges at a nearby hospital. To understand why this is so important to women’s rights you can read the article in full – education is key.
My thought, I don’t believe in coincidences. Being it’s Women’s History Month I feel that it is extremely important to pay attention to issues like this and the timing. Things can change fast and if we continue to be distracted by minuscule things we will miss key moments. Moments that can shift how we live, what we have control over, and what we can and can not do legally.
