Supreme Court Ends Affirmative Action

In a critical ruling, the U.S. Supreme Court decreed that race can’t be a factor in college admissions, potentially influencing future U.S. educational policies and past rulings on this issue. The 6-3 and 6-2 verdicts in the University of North Carolina and Harvard University cases, respectively, weren’t surprising given the court’s conservative majority.
The cases involved accusations by Students for Fair Admission against both universities, alleging racial discrimination in their admissions processes favoring certain demographics over Asian-American applicants.
Reacting to this decision, Democrats for Education Reform DC (DFER DC) stated that this ruling against affirmative action in admission policies undermines equitable access and impedes progress, maintaining systemic barriers for Black and Brown students in the education system.
