A recent study indicates that consuming food from disposable plastic takeout containers may elevate the risk of heart disease.
Researchers analyzed data from 3,000 individuals to examine the link between plastic container use and heart disease prevalence.
They also conducted experiments on rats, exposing them to chemicals released from plastic when hot water was poured into containers.
Findings revealed that prolonged exposure led to changes in gut microbiota, increased inflammation, and damage to heart muscle tissue, along with higher markers of myocardial injury and oxidative stress.
The study’s authors recommend avoiding plastic containers for hot foods to reduce chemical exposure.
