Study: 70% of Near-Death Survivors Report Spiritual Shift, Less Fear of Death

Written by on October 15, 2025

A University of Virginia study found that near-death experiences (NDEs) profoundly affect people’s lives, with about 70% of the 167 surveyed reporting changes in spiritual beliefs and reduced fear of death.
Many re-evaluated relationships, with over 20% experiencing breakups.
However, the experience often led to feelings of isolation, as sufferers feared being misunderstood or judged.
Around 64% sought help, but many struggled to find adequate support, especially from religious institutions or mental health professionals.
Researchers call for better care and understanding of NDEs to address the unique needs of those who go through them.
