Strong Museum Honors Juneteenth

Written by on June 19, 2021

To honor and celebrate Juneteenth, the Strong Museum of Play is offering the community an opportunity through playing and learning. This event kicks off with a traditional ceremony at 11 a.m, with admission and parking free for the day. The Strong Museum of Play is partnering with the Greater Rochester Martin Luther King Jr. Commission to offer performances and activities to promote Black history and culture, including performances by the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra and the YMCA Dreamseeds Jazz Band. Also at this event, Covid-19 vaccines will also be offered with no appointment necessary.

Simeon Bannister of the Greater Rochester MLK Commission stated; “We have to recognize that holidays like Juneteenth didn’t merge out of nowhere, they were built on the back of those who didn’t come before us and so we honor their spirits and we invoke them into the celebration.”
