As of today, Strong Memorial Hospital could see hundreds of resignations due to the fact that religious exemption to the COVID-19 vaccine mandate ends, and everyone must be vaccinated against COVID-19. According to data from Monday morning, Less than 300 workers with direct patient contact remained unvaccinated.
Kathy Parrinello, chief operating officer for UR Medicine Strong Memorial Hospital, spoke on this mandate, saying that the quality of care will not change, as 15,000 staff members at strong are vaccinated. Some of their employees have even agreed to work extra shifts and new hires finishing fall orientation will soon be stepping in to help. Strong will also not turn away any new patients.
Parrinello said: “We hate to lose any employees and there are some employees who have worked here for years that have made the personal decision not to get vaccinated and will be leaving…I remain impressed by the resiliency of our staff here at Strong. They are highly committed to taking care of patients and doing the best they possibly can.”
