State Police Launch Autism Awareness Visor Card Program
Written by Site Hub on September 6, 2025
The New York State Police introduced a new Autism Awareness Visor Card Program to improve communication during traffic stops. Individuals on the autism spectrum often face challenges with sensory sensitivities, communication differences, and social interaction, which can create misunderstandings with law enforcement. The visor card, featuring helpful icons, will assist troopers in making interactions clearer and less stressful. All state trooper vehicles will carry the cards once the program is fully launched. Families and individuals can also download and print the cards from the NYSP website. The initiative aims to reduce confusion and foster safer, more respectful interactions across the state.
