New York State has announced $51 million in grants to support affordable homeownership, benefiting nearly 1,100 households. Governor Kathy Hochul’s office stated the funds would assist low- and moderate-income families with home repairs, safety upgrades, accessibility modifications, replacement of manufactured homes, and down payment assistance for first-time buyers.

The grants, administered by New York State Homes and Community Renewal’s Office of Community Renewal, aim to preserve affordable housing, support veterans and older residents, expand homeownership access, and strengthen local economies. The funding is distributed across regions, with notable allocations in areas such as the Capital Region ($9.2 million), Southern Tier ($7.6 million), and North Country ($6.3 million).

The grants are provided through state and federally funded programs, including NYS HOME, Community Development Block Grant, Access to Home, Mobile and Manufactured Home Replacement, and RESTORE. Each program offers specific benefits, such as making homes accessible for persons with disabilities, replacing unsafe mobile homes, and assisting seniors with emergency repairs.

The initiative reflects the state’s commitment to increasing affordable housing opportunities and ensuring residents can live safely and securely in their communities.
