Standoff with Armed Man Ends Safely; Children, Pregnant Woman Escaped

A 33-year-old man was arrested Friday morning after a police standoff in which he allegedly threatened a woman with a handgun. The incident began around 1:30 a.m. on Dewey Avenue near Beverly Heights. Police say the man refused to leave his apartment, shouted at officers, and waved a gun from the window. A pregnant woman and two children, ages 10 and 12, were inside but exited safely hours later. The man later ran toward officers while making threats and was taken into custody.
