Lisa Houston, a teacher in Anderson, South Carolina retired last week after a video surfaced of her standing on a black students desk putting her feet on his chest, pulling his hair, and slapping his face.
Houston who has taught math for 27 years at Palmetto High School voluntarily resigned after the video was posted on Snapchat by one of the students in the classroom.
Houston explained her actions as a lighthearted way to engage the student. She said “If you ask any kid I’ve taught, they’ll tell you I kid around with them, make them stay awake and laugh with them,” to WYFF channel 4 South Carolina.
Houstons’ attorney said more information regarding the video will come to light because it doesn’t show the whole story.
The Anderson School District One said as soon as they started to investigate the incident Houston resigned.
Students, parents, and other people in the community are showing their support for Houston by protesting to have her back teaching.
