Snoop Dogg uses fame to promote coronavirus safety

Written by on March 28, 2020

On Monday, March 23, 48-year-old American rapper and entrepreneur Snoop Dogg used his Instagram social media account to make public announcements about coronavirus safety.

In one photo post, Snoop Dogg stated: “Everyone thinks this coronavirus is a joke or conspiracy until someone gets sick in they family. Just stay home so we can get this sh*t over with. Remember all those party and beaches will still be there when this is done smh.”

He also posted a popular statement that’s been circulating across various social media outlets: “Your grandparents were called to war. You’re being called to sit on a couch. You can do this.”

Snoop Dogg isn’t the only celebrity or music artist to use his fame and popularity to promote safety. In recent weeks, Cardi B. and DJ iMarkkeyz, Ariana Grande, South London rapper Psychs and others have been speaking out on social media or through their music.

As reported by CNN earlier this month, the use of music to spread awareness has played a major role in containing the virus in various areas around the world. In Africa, for example, professional music artists and even doctors have been using songs to educate the public. In China, a Ghanaian doctor, Dr Percy Akuetteh, released a hip-hop song about transmission and safety measures that was translated into Mandarin.
