Temu and Shein have raised prices on many products ahead of new U.S. tariffs taking effect May 2nd.
The hikes come in anticipation of the end of the “de minimis” exemption, which currently allows goods under $800 to avoid import tariffs.
Starting May 2, U.S. businesses will face either a 120% tariff or a $100 flat fee per item, increasing to $200 on June 1, following an executive order signed by former President Donald Trump.
Shoppers already saw significant price increases—CNN found examples like a Temu patio chair rising from $61.72 to $70.17, and a Shein bathing suit set jumping from $4.39 to $8.39.
Not all prices increased, though, as some items dropped, reflecting typical online price fluctuations.
It remains unclear if customers will be charged tariffs for orders placed before May 2 but delivered afterward.
