On Monday, US National Security Advisor Robert O’Brien tested positive for COVID-19. So far, O’Brien is the highest ranking Trump administration official to contract the virus.
Officials at the White House say that he hasn’t had any contact with the president.
O’Brien had just returned from a trip to Europe and was photographed not wearing a mask or respecting social distancing guidelines. According to reports, he met with UK counterpart, Mark Sedwill; the UK ambassador to France, Edward Llewellyn; and the French national security adviser, Emmanuel Bonne.
The White House issued a statement, saying:
“He has mild symptoms and has been self-isolating and working from a secure location off site. There is no risk of exposure to the president or the vice-president. The work of the national security council continues uninterrupted.”
