Seneca Park Zoo Welcomes North American River Otter Pups
Written by Site Hub on March 1, 2025
The Seneca Park Zoo is celebrating the birth of three North American river otter pups, born on January 28 to nine-year-old Ashkii. The litter includes two males and one female, with Gary, a male otter transferred to the zoo in 2023, as the father.
Ashkii, born in 2016, arrived at the Seneca Park Zoo during the COVID-19 pandemic, and her pups mark an exciting continuation of the zoo’s North American river otter conservation efforts, which date back to the 1980s. The zoo also launched an otter reintroduction campaign in the 1990s to support the species’ population.
While the pups won’t be on public display yet, guests can catch a rare virtual glimpse of them starting Saturday via a live camera feed in the Creatures from the River’s Edge exhibit.
