Scottie Pippen Says Some Of The Chicago Bulls Were Uncomfortable With Michael Jordan’s Comeback

Scottie Pippen has revealed that Michael Jordan’s return to the Chicago Bulls in 1995 wasn’t universally welcomed by teammates. In an interview with Basketball Network, Pippen said many players had become comfortable in their roles during Jordan’s absence and found the pressure of his return disruptive. Having stepped into a leadership role after Jordan left for minor league baseball, Pippen noted that the dynamic shifted dramatically once Jordan rejoined the team. While the Bulls were eliminated in the 1995 playoffs by the Orlando Magic, they rebounded the following year to win the first of three straight championships. However, Pippen has remained critical of Jordan’s portrayal in The Last Dance documentary, claiming it glorified Jordan while minimizing the contributions of others. In his memoir Unguarded, Pippen argued that Jordan controlled the narrative of the documentary and used it to reinforce his legacy, especially in comparison to LeBron James. Pippen’s comments continue to shed light on the tension and complexity behind one of basketball’s most iconic dynasties.
