Sankofa Festival Celebrates Local Black Theater and Talent

The Sankofa Festival, running August 17–24, 2025, at Rochester’s Multi-Use Community Cultural Center, continues its 15-year tradition of celebrating Black playwrights, directors, and actors. Hosted by the MMB Theatre 1 Project, the festival offers performances, discussions, and tributes that uplift local artists and foster cultural expression. Community members are encouraged to attend and support emerging talent, with programming aimed at providing both entertainment and enrichment. Sankofa remains a vital platform for elevating Black voices in the arts and creating space for storytelling grounded in heritage and hope.
