DJ and producer Chris Granillo, also known as SÜSiO, was asked by local San Diego resident, Josh Keifner, to help him honor healthcare and other essential workers by spinning music at a downtown San Diego high-rise building on Saturday.
As Keifner told CBS8 in San Diego: “[My friend] posted a video of everyone doing the 8 o’clock kind of rally supporting everyone in the hospital and first responders industry – and my sister actually works at Sharp Grossmont… I kind of wanted to salute everyone – these essential grocery store, construction workers, etc. – just kind of show our support.”
Keifner also explained: “Anything to kind of escape the reality of what we’re going through right now. It’s scary times. I mean, I love being able to see people express themselves openly and kind of have a good time every night. It’s heartwarming to see.”
Granillo and other deejays who participated in the event went all out with the music. The public was invited to join in as well. People on nearby balconies added their own sounds with a variety of standard and handmade instruments. Some residents even set up strobes and other lights to make it a real party and celebration of all that front line workers have done during the pandemic to save lives.
