RPD will begin to roll out ‘Leave Behind Naloxone’ program

Written by on October 15, 2024

The Rochester Police Department (RPD) is launching the “Leave Behind Naloxone” program in collaboration with the Monroe County Health Department to combat opioid overdose deaths. As part of the initiative, RPD officers will be equipped with Naloxone kits to distribute to high-risk individuals, including overdose survivors, people with a history of overdosing, and their families. Each kit contains two doses of Narcan, instructions on its use, harm reduction tips, and information on how to seek help. RPD Chief David Smith emphasized the program as a crucial step in saving lives from opioid overdoses, similar to efforts taken to reduce violence. The program will begin in November and be fully implemented across the department by February 2025.
