RPD Announces Changes To Use Of Force Policy

Written by on September 7, 2021

The Rochester Police Department will be implementing its new policies regarding the use of force on children and adults. Some of the techniques that are now banned from use by RPD are chokeholds, firing warning shots, and neck restraints. The policy changes come after the death of Daniel Prude and the incident where a 9-year-old was pepper-sprayed.

For cases that include children, chemical agents are banned. The use of force like tasers and batons can only be used in situations where the juvenile poses an imminent threat.
