Ronald McDonald House Charities Cancels Clothing Sale Due to COVID-19

Written by on June 27, 2020

Almost 30 years ago, the Ronald McDonald House Charities held its first sale in a garage where it raised money to help the families of sick children get housing and support when they needed it most.

This week, officials have let the public know that this year’s sale, scheduled for May, is cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic and they will no longer be continuing the charity sale.

Dave Kelly, Vice President of Community Engagement for Ronald McDonald House Charities of Rochester addressed the public, saying:

“We are grateful for the decades of support we have received from the Rochester community and surrounding areas – especially our volunteers, donors and shoppers. We are also incredibly thankful to Flaum Management for supporting our transition out of the leased space early. Their belief and support of our mission will help families and kids for years to come. The safety of our volunteers, staff, and shoppers is our main concern. I am hopeful that the community will continue to support RMHCR which relies 100% on contributions to support our kids and families.”

In addition to the concerns for social distancing at a retail fundraiser, the event itself hasn’t been able to generate enough revenue to cover its overhead and make a profit.
