The Houston Rockets converted guard Nate Williams from a two-way contract to a standard NBA deal, the team announced Sunday. To clear a roster spot for Williams, the Rockets waived center Cody Zeller, who was acquired in a trade with Atlanta last month but had not been with the Rockets since the trade.

Williams’ new four-year deal is worth $8.2 million and is guaranteed for the remainder of this season, then non-guaranteed for the next three seasons, per a source. The Rockets now have an open two-way roster spot and could sign a player ahead of Tuesday’s two-way deadline. The Rockets already have guard Jack McVeigh and center N’Faly Dante on two-way contracts.

Williams, whose full name is Jeenathan Williams Jr., is 26 and in his third NBA season. He has played in eight games for the Rockets this season, including when he played 18 minutes and scored 11 points in Houston’s Feb. 13 loss to the Golden State Warriors. Undrafted out of Buffalo in 2022, he spent his first season with Portland before joining the Rockets prior to the 2023-24 season.
