Written by on December 16, 2025

Rochester Regional Health has been awarded $15 million by New York State to strengthen its cybersecurity infrastructure, part of a broader $300 million investment to modernize healthcare systems. Funded through the Statewide Health Care Facility Transformation Program, the money will be used for systemwide upgrades to protect against ransomware attacks, data breaches, and service disruptions. CEO Chip Davis emphasized that the funding will allow the health system to continue delivering care safely while reinforcing patient trust. The grant is one of 22 awarded to healthcare facilities across the state in recent funding rounds, prioritizing financially stressed providers. Projects include improving IT systems, expanding telehealth, and meeting new statewide cybersecurity regulations. With cyberattacks on hospitals rising nationwide, state officials view this as a critical investment to protect both data and lives. New York has already invested over $1.75 billion in healthcare infrastructure under the program, making cybersecurity a growing priority amid digital threats.
