Rochester Launches ‘Dear Canada’ Campaign Amid Tourism Decline

With Canadian tourism to the U.S. down more than 30% in June 2025 compared to last year, Rochester officials are adapting with a heartfelt marketing push. Visit Rochester’s “Dear Canada” campaign aims to woo Canadian travelers back to the region with reminders of the area’s attractions and the bicentennial celebration of the Erie Canal. Despite the national downturn, local tourism officials report increased domestic travel and stable local attraction attendance. Don Jeffries, CEO of Visit Rochester, emphasized continued outreach efforts in Canada, unlike some other U.S. cities that scaled back. The campaign seeks to reassure Canadians they’re welcome and encouraged to enjoy the Finger Lakes region.
