A Rochester family is heartbroken after a car containing Christmas gifts for seven children was stolen overnight on Friday. The theft occurred while the mother, preparing for a major kidney surgery, was being supported by her own mother, Cynthia Robinson. The family awoke to find the 2021 Hyundai missing from their driveway, with several hundred dollars’ worth of presents inside.
To make matters worse, the alleged perpetrators taunted the family online by posting videos and photos of themselves wrecking the car, opening the gifts, and sarcastically thanking the family for them. Robinson described the ordeal as deeply painful, especially given the mounting stress of her daughter’s health concerns.
The car was later recovered with significant damage, consistent with a trend of Hyundai-Kia vehicle thefts, but no suspects are in custody. Community members, including Primetime 585 Board Chair Karen Iglesia, have stepped in to rally support. Donations are being collected to help replace the stolen gifts and ease the family’s burden during this difficult time. Contributions can be sent to Primetime 585 P.O. Box P.O. Box 632 Penfield, NY 14526, Venmo cash to PT585, or online, with “gifts” noted in the memo.
