Written by Tariq on November 6, 2025
Councilmember Martin and VOCAL-NY announced an Emergency Family Support Grant designed to provide assistance to families impacted by the federal government’s failure to provide food assistance to families. Through this initiative, 25 families will each receive a one-time $200 grant for food and nutritional needs. The initiative aims to support families at risk of food insecurity during this challenging time.
Eligibility requirements:
-
Must be a city resident
-
Must be a parent or primary caretaker of at least one child under the age of 18
-
Must be a SNAP recipient
Applications will open today, Thursday November 6th and close on Sunday Nov. 9th. Families will be contacted on Monday Nov. 10th to be notified of their grant award. “I was raised by a single mother who worked two jobs and relied on SNAP benefits to ensure that my siblings and I didn’t go hungry,” said Councilmember Martin. “I’m thankful to the many organizations and individuals who recognize that access to food is a human right, and are working creatively to fill gaps in food access during this difficult time.” “Far too often, the cards are stacked against single mothers in this country,” said Alyssa Aguilera, Co-Executive Director of VOCAL-NY. “With SNAP food assistance under attack by the Trump administration, children and families will go hungry. We’re proud to partner with Councilmember Martin on this initiative because we know when you invest in our most vulnerable folks, entire communities benefit.” To apply, please visit bit.ly/SNAPgrant
