Local leaders at Rochester’s Coalition to Prevent Lead Poisoning are concerned about losing federal funding after the CDC’s Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention program staff were fired in April.
Though officials claim the program remains funded, its future is unclear. The coalition relies on a $200,000 annual federal grant to support staff and outreach.
Cuts could impact anti-lead efforts across Monroe County, which has seen major drops in childhood lead exposure since implementing stricter local laws in 2005.
